Our year 6 robotics team attended the First Lego League
We stood by the robot game table, waiting patiently for “Nemo & Dorry’s Adventures” to be called, then we began our chant, our voices flooded the ACG Strathallan gymnasium. Finally we concluded by calling out our motto: “Jus’ keep swimming…” The championship evaded us at Nationals, we learnt that robots can never be entirely relied upon when it is mission critical (or just maybe, it might have been our nerves). We took the time to look back over our successes at the Auckland Regionals; being awarded the trophy for the Auckland Regional Design Award was a highlight. We certainly did learn and do believe in the FLL’s core values, especially “What we discover is more important than what we win”. We are all very proud of the effort our team put into this year’s challenge and especially our performance overall as a new team entering the FLL Challenge. FLL is an international robotics competition designed around a specific theme, this year was the “Food Factor Challenge” which has three separate elements incorporated into it. Firstly, a game section where you design and program a robot, to complete a series of challenges autonomously. Secondly, a group inquiry on a specific hygiene issue of your choice. Thirdly, a mystery challenge to demonstrate the FLL core values, this really does test your problem solving and team cooperation skills. Reported by Hannah P, Tyra P, Caitlin H, Paige M and Mr Turner
