TRAFFIC ETIQUETTE AND SAFETY AROUND OUR SCHOOL

Keeping our Children Safe at Pick Up and Drop Off

We have major traffic pressure on Bass Road.  If you have family members collecting your child/ren, please ensure you have explained our traffic rules and collection area protocols.

We ask that all parents/drivers around our school avoid the following unsafe traffic behaviours:

Parking across two spaces

(on Bass Road, Summerfield Lane and Roanoke Way).

Parking on footpaths or across driveways (cars are required to park 1 metre back from a driveway. A fine for this offence for blocking entry to or exit from any driveway costs around $70).

Parking in staff car parking off Bass Road or off Roanoke Way

(unless permission and a parking card has been allocated).

Parking on both sides of Summerfield Lane / Vinewood Drive

as this blocks visibility for children crossing these roads.

Reverse parking into the angle parking along Bass Road

(Fines for this offence, often termed "incorrect angle parking" or "incorrect kerb parking," generally cost around $40).

Stopping on yellow broken lines along Bass Road,  Albany Highway and in the Albany School bus and turning bay; to let your children into or out of the car

Stopping in the flow of traffic to allow your children into or out of the car, including both lanes of Albany Highway, the intersection with Oaklands Road and anywhere along Bass Road.

No one is permitted to make a RIGHT HAND entry into the bus bay when buses are parked there or when the orange traffic cones are in place (see diagram below). This bylaw ensures the safe loading and collection of all students, as well as preventing gridlock and allowing traffic to move freely down Bass Road (and not block the intersection). As an alternative, either park in Bass Road or Roanoke Way for a five minute walk to class (with the added bonus of 100 extra steps to your daily total!)

Disregarding these driving and parking rules endangers not only the safety of your child, but also that of others.
